Is Whole-Body Vibration (WBV) an Effective and Safe Treatment Choice for Older Adults? Course for Physical Therapist is organized by ContinuingEducation.com - OnCourse Learning Corporation and will be held during Sep 28, 2012 - Nov 28, 2019. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1.00 Hours.
Course Description :
Whole-body vibration applies a vibratory stimulus to the entire body by having the subject stand on a vibrating platform as opposed to isolating a specific body area. WBV is a newer modality used in fitness clubs and physical therapy clinics as a method of exercise and functional training, and many vendors are marketing WBV units for home use. Practical and safe clinical WBV guidelines must be followed to ensure optimal benefit in older adults and deconditioned patients.
Course objectives :
The goal of this whole-body vibration (WBV) continuing education activity is to provide physical therapists with an overview of whole-body vibration use in older adults to treat common chronic diseases and deficits and to teach the PT how to select the proper treatment parameters to produce a safe treatment protocol. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
• Discuss potential physiological mechanisms of WBV action
• Discuss the two basic types of WBV equipment and the various parameters the PT can select to achieve a safe WBV intervention that minimizes harmful vibration levels
• Review the proposed effectiveness of WBV treatment to enhance bone density, muscle performance, balance, and functional mobility in older adults
Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
