Overview:
The oxyhemoglobin dissociation curve indicates the relationship between the oxygen saturation of hemoglobin (SaO2) and the partial pressure of arterial oxygen (PaO2). Neither linear nor static, the curve can change or shift depending on various factors. Understanding the curve and its implications for patient care can be challenging. This course decodes the curve to make it more understandable and discusses the benefits and limitations of pulse oximetry. The goal of this course is to educate nurses on how to use the oxyhemoglobin dissociation curve to better assess a patient’s oxygenation status.
