OVERVIEW

Crystal arthropathies such as gout and calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate deposition disease (CPPD) are among the more common rheumatological disorders encountered in the primary care setting. Early recognition and treatment can help prevent future attacks, pain, and joint destruction and even minimize cardiovascular risk in select patients. This CME activity covers essential clinical aspects including the epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, and appropriate follow-up when encountering crystal arthropathies in the primary care setting.

1. Distinguish the clinical presentations and manifestations of gout and associated medical comorbidities.
