Virtually by definition, physicians have a blind spot for their own biases. This activity, third in a series, aims to foster recognition of how bias derails the diagnostic process, and to arm participants with strategies to counter bias. These strategies include knowing what conditions predispose to which kinds of biases and errors; and how to improve diagnosis through metacognition, the deliberate selection of debiasing tools such as executive override, cognitive forcing and re-biasing. Presented by emergency medicine physician Pat Croskerry.
Conference Objectives are :
• Recognize and counteract the high risk endogenous and environmental factors that foster bias and diagnostic error.
• Describe a strategy for detecting and countering your affective bias against a patient.
• State the ultimate cognitive forcing strategy in medical diagnosis.
Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
