OVERVIEW

The opioid epidemic remains one of the most devastating public health crises in the United States, with more than 564,000 deaths from opioid overdoses between 1999 and 2020. This 1-hour CME/CE course equips healthcare professionals with the latest knowledge on opioid prescribing by reviewing the updated CDC guidelines.

Learners will gain insight into the historical context of the opioid crisis, trends in prescribing behaviors, and systemic drivers of misuse. The course walks clinicians through best practices for opioid initiation, continuation, dosing, titration, and discontinuation. It also emphasizes risk reduction strategies and highlights the critical role of Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMPs) and Controlled Substance Reporting Systems in curbing opioid misuse.

This course fulfills MATE Act DEA requirements and meets the state-mandated CE criteria related to pain management, controlled substances, and opioid prescribing for healthcare professionals across more than 30 states, including Florida, Texas, California, Michigan, and New York.
