Dr. Stowell will provide an update on current understandings of mechanisms for alloimmunization to transfusion. Host and blood product risk factors will be discussed, along with strategies to minimize the risk of alloimmunization.

• Explain mechanisms associated with alloimmunization to blood products.
• List risk factors for RBC alloimmunization.
• Describe strategies used to prevent alloimmunization in transfusion recipients.
