What is the purpose of A Life to Be Lived: An Update on Physiotherapy with the Ageing Person CME Webcast?

Course Aims:
A one-day course (5.5. hours CPD) combining theory and practical application for therapists, essentially to develop clinical reasoning and decision-making skills when reviewing the needs of older people:
• To update them on neuro-musculoskeletal aspects of the aging body (with a focus on changes in gait and balance) of relevance to clinical practice with this population
• To review contemporary research evidence about the benefits of physical activity, exercise for falls prevention, and recognition and management of frailty, with reference to secondary complications of the COVID-19 pandemic
• To consider commonly used assessment tools and outcome measurement, and how these can be modified when assessing people online.

Course Outcomes:
By the end of the CME Webcast, participants will be able to:
• List common changes that occur in the aging nervous, muscular and skeletal systems
• Discuss and consider the appropriateness of assessment tools, treatments and outcome measurement commonly used for physical intervention with their aging patients and clients
• Access research evidence about the benefits of physical activity falls prevention and frailty to inform their clinical practice
