A Dietitian's Guide to Chronic Inflammation is organized by Dietitian Central.

Live Event Date: Aug 19, 2021
Expiration Date: May 31, 2024

Target Audience: RDs, DTRs, Health Professionals

Inflammation is our body’s way of fighting infections, injuries, or toxins. In the short-term or acute stage, this is good as it promotes our body’s natural defense mechanisms to trigger an immune response of antibodies, proteins, and increased blood flow to the damaged area. However, if this response continues for more than a few days, it leads to a state of chronic inflammation which has a negative impact on the body. Chronic inflammation causes damage to cells, tissues, and organs leading to DNA damage, tissue death, and organ dysfunction. This course will break down chronic inflammation and how dietitians can use medical nutrition therapy to promote positive patient outcomes.

Learning Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
• Describe the pathophysiology of chronic inflammation.
• Identify role of the Registered Dietitian Nutrition in the treatment of chronic inflammation.
• Explain how anti-inflammatory foods decrease inflammation in the body.
• Recognize the health benefits of lowering inflammation in the body.
