Child Abuse Mandated Reporter Training for New York State: Identifying and Reporting Child Abuse and Maltreatment is organized by Wild Iris Medical Education, Inc.

Course Description:
New York State Education Department (NYSED) Mandate: In 2025, Section 413 of the New York Social Services Law was amended to require the addition of guidance on identifying an abused or maltreated child when such child is an individual with an intellectual or developmental disability. This course has been updated to include the additional content. New York law requires every person who is required to take the mandated training related to child abuse, including those who have previously undergone this training, to complete this updated training by November 17, 2026.

Course Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the impacts of trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
  2. Identify protective factors against trauma.
  3. Discuss implicit bias and its relationship to child welfare.
  4. Summarize New York definitions pertaining to child abuse and maltreatment.
  5. Recognize indicators of child maltreatment and abuse, including in a virtual setting.
  6. Describe New York State reporting requirements, including calling the Statewide Central Register (SCR) and filing the Form LDSS-2221A.
  7. Discuss the legal protections afforded mandated reporters and the consequences for failing to report.
Credits

Nursing:
The above student has successfully completed an approved course in the Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse and Maltreatment, as mandated by Chapter 56 of the Laws of 2025 amended Social Services Law Section 413 on the above date.
