Mayo Clinic Talks Podcast: Opioid Edition is organized by Mayo Clinic School of Continuous Professional Development (MCSCPD) and will be held during Jan 04, 2018 - Dec 31, 2020.
The target audience for this medical event is All healthcare providers who prescribe or administer opioids to patients, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physicians' assistants, nurses and pharmacists. This podcast series is particularly relevant for primary care physicians who maintain and monitor patients on chronic opioid therapy. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 2.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
This podcast series includes eight 15-minute interviews with Mayo Clinic physicians as they discuss the new opioid prescribing guidelines and share real-life examples from their practice. Physicians refer to a variety of resources available to guide the assessment of a patients' candidacy for opioid therapy; and when deemed appropriate, provide recommendations for which drug, what dosage and how long a therapy should be considered. Addiction and opioid use disorder are also discussed with addiction medicine professionals. This course is appropriate for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses and pharmacists. It is particularly relevant for primary care physicians who maintain and monitor patients on chronic opioid therapy.
Learning Objectives :
Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
• Identify when it is appropriate to initiate or continue opioid therapy for a patient.
• Select the best opioid medication, dosage and duration for a patient identified as a good candidate for opioid therapy.
• Recognize the risks of opioid therapy and recommend treatment options for opioid use disorder.
