The hallmarks of immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) result from the intricate interplay of cells, cytokines, and other components of the immune system. Similar pathology underlies related rheumatic diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and giant cell arteritis. Understanding the immunopathology of these diseases is essential to understanding the mechanisms of action through which different medications exert their effects. Rheumatologists and other health care providers need to have more than immunopathology knowledge when caring for patients with IMIDs. In this podcast series, expert clinicians will discuss patient wellness, optimal vaccine practices, and the importance of empathy in caring for patients with IMIDs.
Upon successful completion of this educational activity, participants should be better able to:
• Educate patients on how diet, lifestyle, and environment can influence immune response and overall wellness.
• Review best practices for vaccine administration in rheumatology practice.
• Evaluate strategies for patient communication that may improve patient satisfaction once clinical target is reaced.
