Learner Outcomes:
Students in the Diabetes Management in Older Adults course will explore theories and techniques to assist elderly patients with diabetes in sustaining the best quality of life possible. Upon completion of the course you will be able to:
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of diabetes (types, symptoms, and diagnosis), its development, progression and management in an elderly adult
• Develop, adapt and implement protocols related to diabetes care in a long-term care setting or a community setting
• Explain the importance of and advocate for a planned approach for managing diabetes among older adults living in long term care facilities or in the community
• Identify how to access resources for ongoing learning regarding diabetes
• Demonstrate a commitment to self-directed learning and professional development
Course Objectives:
Diabetes Management in Older Adults, updated to meet the 2018 Diabetes Canada Clinical Practice Guidelines, is designed to provide you with the opportunity to enhance your knowledge of the care and management of older adults living with diabetes. In addition, you will explore the most effective means to educate your patients, their families and other healthcare providers.
