Diminishing time and resources force emergency physicians to practice regional anaesthesiato best serve their patients. Fortunately, point of care ultrasound means that the range of safe and easy blocks is rising rapidly. Peripheral arm and leg blocks, plexus blocks and plane blocks are increasing in the EP repertoire.
This course will show you the normal anatomy, approach and targets for a large range of blocks, and then refine your needle guidance techniques. There is a lot more to needle guidance than most clinicians realise. Most have one preferred technique – by the end of this course we intend that you can optimise your machine settings, and then choose from a range of techniques to suit each particular patient.
• Interscalene Brachial Plexus
• Axillary Brachial Plexus
• Femoral nerve
• Adductor Canal
• Popliteal Sciatic
• Brachial Plexus
• Proximal Sciatic
• TAP block
• PECS blocks
• Paravertebral blocks
• To identify the ultrasound appearances of nerves and relational anatomical landmarks for specific upper, lower, trunk and core blocks
• To optimise the ultrasound machine to enhance visualisation of the anatomical regions
• To apply ultrasound protocols to correctly locate blocks
• To develop techniques to avoid nerve injury and troubleshoot complications associated with nerve injury
