Introduction to Obstetrics - 2 Day Course is organized by Australian Institute of Ultrasound (AIU) and will be held from Mar 26 - 27, 2020 at Australian Institute of Ultrasound, Gold coast, Queensland, Australia. 

Accreditation:
RANZCOG:
12 CPD points
Trainees are able to obtain credit for courses undertaken up to 12 months before they commenced in the FRANZCOG training program

ACEM:
This course accredited for 15 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours as complying with ACEM standards and policies for Pregnancy (1st trimester) and Monitoring the Foetus (2nd and 3rd Trimester).

ACRRM: 
Approved for 30 PDP points; 30 points PRPD; 30 pts MOPS Radiology; 30 pts MOPS Emergency Medicine

Eligible for Rural Procedural Grants Funding – 2 days under all components (Emergency Medicine, Anaesthetics, Obstetrics and Surgery)

CICM:
Lectures – Category 2A, points per hour 1;
Demonstrations – Category 2B, points per hour 2;
Skills – Category 3B, points per hour 3

RACGP:
Activity Number: 103297, 40 Category 1 points. Specific Requirement Eligibility – Diagnostic radiology Grant Approved Training – 2 days under Emergency Medicine, Anaesthetics, Obstetrics and Surgery.

ACM:
Australian College Midwives approved for 11 CPD points

Description:
This 2 day program is specifically designed for health professionals who have an interest in point of care obstetric ultrasound. Practical scanning with volunteers at varying gestations is also included.

Course Objectives:
On completion of the course the student should be able to:
• Identify & examine an intrauterine pregnancy with a heartbeat present
• Describe the criteria for failed pregnancy
• Describe pregnancy of unknown location
• Commence scanning on transvaginal phantoms
• Identify & measure the cervix length
• Identify & examine the placenta
• Describe some placenta, cord & cervix- variants & pathology
• Discuss translabial scanning
• Establish fetal lie and locate fetal structures 
• Identify & record cardiac activity
• M-mode
• Pulsed Wave ( > 12 weeks)
• Locate correct planar anatomy & measure fetal biometry (BPD, HC, AC & FL & EFW)
• Identify signs of fetal wellbeing
• Scan & measure the Amniotic Fluid Index
• Scan & measure the umbilical artery cord Doppler 
• Be aware of the limitations of point of care ultrasound and when to on-refer the patient

Course Content:
• System orientation and probe manipulation techniques
• Early pregnancy assessment
• Transabdominal and transvaginal techniques 
• Third Trimester-
○ Identifying the cervix & placental location
○ Fetal location and lie
○ Fetal Biometry
○ A mniotic Fluid Index (AFI)
○ Cord Doppler
