The value of this course is that you get the introduction to obstetrics (2days) and the core rural medicine courses. This course provides essential ultrasound skills to manage patients in rural and remote settings where access to complimentary diagnostic facilities is limited or requires your patients to travel long distances. As clinical ultrasound skills are highly operator-dependant and limited by time constraints, it requires experienced tutors (1:4 ratio) to guide your techniques and lay the foundation for safe and effective ultrasound practice. Additional to the core content in Point of Care Ultrasound.

Content:-
• Basic Physics principles
• Abdominal aortic Aneurysm
• EFAST protocol
• Biliary
• Renal hydronephrosis and calculi
• Basic Echo in Life support (BELS)

• Basic Monitoring the fetus
• Vascular access

Course Objective:-

• Identify the physical principles, artefacts and the steps for image optimization while performing ultrasound in rural medical practice
• Practice "hands on" ultrasound scanning skills required to maximize diagnostic ability in answering relevant clinical questions
• Recognise the sonographic appearances of normal and abnormal structures required to answer common clinical questions
• Perform EFAST, AAA, Renal & Biliary Tract, Cardiac, Vascular Access, Nerve Blocks, & pregnancy ultrasounds
• Identify the sonographic appearance of the aorta and surrounding structures
• Differentiate normal from abnormal aorta (dilation, aneurysm and dissection)
• Distinguish vein from arteries and perform guided ultrasound venous access
• Differentiate normal from abnormal E-FAST assessment, discriminating pitfalls and artifacts observed when acquiring ultrasound images
• Identify the relational and ultrasound anatomy of the uterus and its content
• Distinguish viable, non- viable and uncertain viability of pregnancy
• Carry out measurement in the first trimester of pregnancy
• Identify the traps and pitfalls in obstetric scanning
• Detect the most common cardiac life threatening focusing on cardiac anatomy and function (LV/RV dysfunction, cardiac tamponade and massive PE)
