Develop appropriate alternative, cost-effective, evidence-based drug regimens utilizing the specific preferred formulary options or generics when they may be less cost to the patient than preferred co-pays. Participants will be given a set of typical patients from a primary care practice setting. At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to: 1. Evaluate multiple primary care patient cases exhibiting commonly seen medical problems. 2. Demonstrate motivational interviewing techniques for a diverse range of patients. 3. Interpret patient-specific case data, issues, and medication therapies to identify medication-related problems. 4. Assess patients accurately with pain for consideration of an opioid trial. 3. Establish realistic goals for pain management and restoration of function. 4. Initiate and titrate opioid treatment (IR and ER/LA) safely and judiciously, maximizing efficacy while minimizing risks. 5. Monitor and re-evaluate treatment continuously; discontinue safely when appropriate. 6. Counsel patients and caregivers about use, misuse, abuse, diversion and overdose. 7.
