Neuroimaging and Neurophysiology of Movement Disorders is organized by International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS) and will be held from Nov 07 - 08, 2019 at University Hospital St. Anne and School of Medicine - Neuroscience Institute, Brno, South Moravian Region, Czech Republic.

Recommended Audience:
This is an advanced course intended especially for movement disorders specialists interested in neurophysiology and imaging of movement disorders, also for neurologists, geriatricians, clinical and basic scientists, radiologists/nuclear medicine clinicians interested in the field of movement disorders. 

Course Description:
Utilizing and understanding electrophysiology and multimodal imaging is crucial to provide an accurate early diagnosis of distinct movement disorders, enhance our understanding of their pathophysiological mechanisms, and provide both invasive and non-invasive treatment options.

The first day of the course will focus on electrophysiological aspects of tremor, dystonia, myoclonus, parkinsonism, and functional movement disorders. It will show how electrophysiology can help clinicians diagnose distinct movement disorders and enhance understanding of their pathological mechanisms and treatment effects. Electrophysiological aspects of deep brain stimulation (DBS) in Parkinson’s disease (PD) and effects of DBS on dystonia and gait disorders will be discussed, and update on non-invasive brain stimulation approaches to treat specific movement disorders and symptoms will also be provided.

The second day of the course will focus on multimodal imaging in prodromal PD to determine how neuroimaging may help to identify individuals at risk of PD and Lewy body diseases. We will show how various imaging techniques may help to explain underlying mechanisms of motor and non-motor symptoms of PD. The afternoon interactive workshop with video cases will teach participants how to use clinical imaging for differential diagnosis of parkinsonism, hyperkinetic movement disorders and dementias with movement disorders in clinical practice.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
• Utilize electrophysiological methods for differential diagnosis and evaluation of distinct movement disorders syndromes
• Recognize electrophysiological aspects of deep brain stimulation
• Recognize treatment potential of non-invasive brain stimulation techniques for dystonia and Parkinson’s disease
• Identify neuroimaging biomarkers of prodromal Lewy body diseases
• Recognize imaging and electrophysiological markers for differential diagnosis of movement disorders in clinical practice
