Mindfulness: An Introductory Workshop on Mindfulness Meditation 2019
Mindfulness: An Introductory Workshop on Mindfulness Meditation is organized by National Centre of Rehabilitation Education (NCORE) and will be held on Mar 15, 2019 at London Road Community Hospital, Derby, England, United Kingdom.
Mindfulness meditation is an ancient practice, an art of 'being' rather than 'doing'. Through regular practice, we cultivate our capacity to experience what comes up in body and mind from moment to moment. In learning to open up to experiences just as they are - be they pleasant or unpleasant, we become more aware of our habitual reactions in thought, emotions, and behaviours. In time we struggle less with what is already here, and enjoy life more.
Relevance for care providers Many care providers feel compelled to get somewhere in a consultation, often in the interest of their patients' health, but sometimes also due to the high expectations of the service in which they work. Though normal and understandable, this tendency may not be helpful or appropriate in some situations. Mindfulness invites a non- judgmental, open awareness of all our tendencies. With regular practice, we notice and accept them for what they are, without judgement. In letting go of our compulsion to 'fix it', we begin to bring more clarity and wisdom to the choices that we make in our professional and personal lives.
Workshop content This 'taster' day has been designed with your own self-care in mind. There will be a balance between shorter and longer, still and moving mindfulness meditation practices and reflections about what comes up during those practices. On the day, you will be encouraged and supported to honour all your experiences with a relaxed attentiveness and curiosity. The learning that you take with you will arise from the process of experiencing you own 'weather patterns' from moment to moment with acceptance. The process may be blissful, challenging, somewhere in between, none or all of these states.
You will find out through actual experience what mindfulness is and isn't, so that you can decide whether it would be helpful or appropriate for your client group. If you then wish to take it further there will be opportunities to discuss with the facilitator after the end of the workshop as to how to go about getting some training to do this.
The workshop is not intended to equip you with the skills to deliver mindfulness interventions back in the workplace. That requires a continuous in-depth training and personal practice.
Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
