Food Matters for Health Professionals is a 1.5-day intensive workshop for health professionals and is an evidence-based culinary nutrition course for health professionals and clinicians.
In this course, you will explore the role of food, lifestyle, and cooking in preventative health and wellbeing, as well as the impact food has on disease management. This intensive workshop is a blend of classroom discussion and hands-on cooking in the kitchen (including full meals each day). “Food Matters” is suitable for all health professionals who want to incorporate food-based nutrition in clinical practice and self-care.
Co-caught by Dr. Kate Shafto, MD, FAAP, FACP CTropMed®, and Jenny Breen, MPH, MEd, Professional Chef, Food Matters will cover the role of food, lifestyle, and cooking in preventative health and wellbeing.
Topics include food-related clinical implications for diabetes and metabolic syndrome; inflammation and the gut; and eating styles such as Mediterranean, vegetarian, vegan, and paleo will also be examined. Additionally, you'll explore inflammation and anti-inflammatory diets, gut health and dysbiosis, sugar and metabolism, fats, nutrient absorption, brain health, and sustainable food systems - all crucial areas of knowledge when counseling patients on diet, food access, and lifestyle choices.
