Echo Best Practice | Echocardiography in Patient Care and in Clinical Trials: When to Use Multi-Modality Imaging is organized by Mayo Clinic Cardiovascular Medicine CME (CV CME) and will be held from Nov 10 - 12, 2019 at Hotel Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, Scottsdale, Arizona, United States of America.

Intended Audience:
The course is intended for practicing adult cardiologist, cardiac sonographers, cardiovascular surgeons, cardiovascular fellows, physician assistance, nurse practitioners, and nurses who order, perform and interpret echo exams to enhance their knowledge of echocardiographic assessment of cardiac disease. The course is designed to further advance your experience in clinical application of echocardiography.

Credits:
Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science designates this live activity for a maximum of 19 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ABIM MOC Points
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 19 Medical Knowledge MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

Course Description:
This course is designed to provide the clinician and cardiac sonographer with an update on the basic concepts as well as advanced techniques when assessing cardiac disease with echocardiography and other imaging modalities. Experts in echocardiography will use illustrative cases and lectures to highlight the role of echocardiography in cardiology such as valvular heart disease, heart failure, myocardial disease, cardiac function, and congenital heart disease. This course will familiarize attendees with recent technological advances in the field. New topics such as 3D imaging, strain imaging and hand-held echo imaging are unique aspects to be discussed during the course along with appropriate use in the operating room, hemodynamic evaluation including cardiac emergencies, in the emergency department, cardiac catheterization laboratory, critical care units and in operating rooms will be discussed.

Course Objectives:
• Describe how to use image optimization techniques and discuss measurement principles for right and left heart chamber quantitation 
• Apply use of echo Doppler in a patient with heart failure symptoms
• Recognize how to assess disease severity by echo and other imaging modalities in common adult valvular heart disease
• Recognize the indications and role of echocardiography in percutaneous aortic and mitral valve intervention in patients with severe valve disease.
• Recognize the role of intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography in guiding surgical treatment
• Define the role of echocardiography in patients with cancer
• Describe the role of echo in the emergency room and critical care units
