Clinical case studies are utilized to build competency. Course is taught by experienced cardiac health care providers.

At the conclusion of the workshop participants will:
• Identify normal wave patterns from abnormal patterns
• Differentiate normal rhythm patterns
• Differentiate ischemic wave forms from infarction with localization of cardiac injury
• Identify rate, axis and normal cardiac pathway tracings
• Develop a systematic approach in reading EKGs to minimize misses.

This course will cover:
• Electrophysiology
• 12 Lead EKG
• Calculating Heart rate
• Dysrhythmias
• A Flutter/A Fibrillation
• Ischemia, Injury and Infarction
• Special Considerations
• Practice Strips/Cases

2. Radiology Interpretation

This course is designed to allow participants to learn a systematic approach to reading plain film radiographs. Knowledge of normal bone, soft tissue and joint appearance are taught to enable attendees to better identify abnormalities. Skills are further defined as participants are engaged in case studies with X-rays illustration. Course will cover interpretation of the chest, abdomen, spine, and upper and lower extremity. All areas are inclusive of adult and pediatric patient.

At the conclusion of the session, participants will be able to:
• Demonstrate proper basic approach to reading films to minimize misses and maximize the diagnostic information
• Identify normal soft tissue and bone imaging from abnormalities
• Recognize bone mineralization, fractures and identify growth plate involvement of fractures
• Demonstrate increase knowledge in reading chest, abdomen, spine and bone radiographs.

3. Suturing Techniques

This course is designed to prepare you for the bedside management of patients with lacerations. This hands on skills lab provides you the opportunity to practice and become comfortable with suturing a number of wounds. As with our other labs, students are broken into smaller proctored groups to practice all suturing types with direct supervision to improve your competency. The course covers wound care management,  proper selection of  suture material used specific to site, types of closures specific to types of wounds.  Suture techniques demonstrated are: running stitch, simple interrupted stitch, vertical mattress stitch and multiple layer closure with sub-cuticular stitch.

At the conclusion of the session, participants will be able to:
• Identify several aspects of wound care
• Discuss basic wound care management
• Demonstrate proper selection and use of suture materials
• Demonstrate proper wound closure specific to wound size
• Demonstrate running stitch, interrupted stitch, vertical mattress and subcutaneous closures.

This course will cover:
• Wound Management
• Selection of Suture Material
• Interrupted Stitch Demonstration / Practice
• Running Stitch Demonstration /Practice
• Subcutaneous Demonstration / Practice
• Vertical Mattress Demonstration /Practice
• Lagniappe – additional practice with proctors

This interactive skills workshop is for the clinician who deals with orthopedic injuries or complaints. This workshop will take the clinician from proper technique of splinting fractured bones to treatment of joint pain with joint injections. This hands on skills workshop will discuss the anatomical structures of the upper and lower joint with indications, benefits and risks of cortisone injections outlined. Participants will have hands on supervised experience to demonstrate proper technique and procedures for joint injections. Skills are practiced on anatomical models with  verbal feedback indicating  proper needle insertion. Joint injections covered are shoulder, elbow and knees in addition to digit nerve blocks. Participants will also have hands on practice of common splints. Proper splinting technique are demonstrated and all participants will demonstrate proper selection and splinting of upper and lower extremities.

At the conclusion of the session, participants will be able to:
• Discuss and identify anatomical landmarks used for injections of the upper extremity
• Discuss and identify anatomical landmarks used for injections of the lower extremity
• Demonstrate proper technique used to administer cortisone injections into the joints
• Discuss risks associated with cortisone injections
• Demonstrate proper use of splinting material and techniques for fractures.

This course will cover:
• Approach to Joint Injection and Indications of Cortisone Use
