This one day conference features Dr. David Axelrod, a nationally recognized expert on sickle cell disease. Dr. Axelrod is the Director of the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Program at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
This conference is devoted to educating healthcare professionals on sickle cell disease complications and current principals of treatment. The conference is targeted to physicians, pharmacists, nurses, hospitalists, and allied health professionals.
at the conclusion of this activity the participants should be able to:
• Further clarify the new rules invoked by the Alabama Medical License Commission for those who have a controlled substance license.
• Decrease the time to pain relief and the average hospital length of stay for sickle cell pain crisis through more effective approaches/utilization of opioid analgesics.
• Provide a framework for determining what patients with critical TCDs in infancy and at increased risk for strokes can be safely transitioned from chronic RBC transfusions to hydroxyurea in adulthood.
