Musculoskeletal Segmental and Dry needling for Physiotherapists Course is organized by Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) and will be held during Mar 17 - 18, 2018 at APA New South Wales Branch, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The target audience for this medical event is qualified physiotherapists only.

Course Description:

This course is an introduction or refresher for physiotherapists interested in Western acupuncture, segmental needling and/or dry needling. The theoretical content is based on the neurophysiology of the effects of needling—including local, spinal and supraspinal—and the modulation of pain via its central effects. The aetiology of trigger points is explained and the most common dry needling techniques are presented. This course has a large practical component and on completion you will gain competency to needle a wide range of acupuncture and myofascial trigger points and other musculoskeletal structures. This course meets the minimum requirements for private indemnity insurance coverage.

Course Objectives are :

• Adequately assess a patient in terms of contra-indications and precautions for acupuncture or dry needling
• Safely needle commonly used acupuncture and trigger points
• Understand the neurophysiology—including local, segmental and extra-segmental—of needling and apply clinical reasoning to your acupuncture and dry needling practice
• Confidently incorporate needling techniques into your musculoskeletal physiotherapy practice.
