American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM) Mastery Courses is organized by American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM) and will be held from Sep 14, 2018 - Feb 10, 2019 at The Hyatt Lodge at McDonald's Campus, Chicago, Illinois, United States of America. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 65 CE Hours.
The AADSM Mastery Program is a comprehensive, clinically-focused and evidence-based education program that will provide dentists with the necessary training and skills they need to provide oral appliance therapy to patients who suffer from obstructive sleep apnea and snoring. Upon completion of the program, dentists will have the competence and confidence to provide oral appliance therapy and build relationships with patients, physicians, and payers.
This course is limited to licensed dentists. The program consists of three in-person courses, each lasting two and one-half days. All courses will be comprised of lectures followed by discussion and will include self-instructional activities prior to each course. Mastery I will also include faculty demonstrations. The courses may be purchased individually or together as a bundle.
Dentists who currently hold the Qualified Dentist designation and are interested in pursuing ABDSM certification must register for Mastery I, II, and III. Successful completion of the Mastery Program and eligibility for the ABDSM Certification Examination includes two Guided Patient Cases. Dentists interested in obtaining Diplomate status via the Mastery Program should begin to screen for patients who are candidates for Oral Appliance Therapy that could fulfill this requirement.
Course Descriptions :
Mastery Course I (Sep 14 - 16, 2018) :
Mastery I is the first course of a three-part program designed for dentists with an interest in, but little or no background, in treating snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) with oral appliance therapy (OAT). This initial course examines fundamental concepts and practical techniques necessary to incorporate OAT into a general or specialty dental practice. Students will be taught the AADSM practice protocols and clinical guidelines necessary to perform the proper patient screening, examination and record acquisition to begin treatment with competence and confidence.
Mastery Course II (Nov 09 - 11, 2018) :
Mastery II builds on the knowledge and clinical proficiency gained in Mastery I with continued emphasis on skill development. Students will participate in oral appliance selection and create a prescription for a laboratory to fabricate an oral appliance. Clinical competence and confidence with delivery and titration will be addressed with further development in Mastery III. Lectures will develop a more in-depth understanding of normal sleep and the consequences of poor quality sleep, including phase delay circadian rhythms in adolescents. Exploring alternative treatments such as surgery and CPAP will lay a foundation for guiding patient decision-making and anticipating combining therapies for best outcomes.
Mastery Course III (Feb 08 - 10, 2019) :
As the final didactic step in the Mastery Program, Mastery III provides the participant with the proficiency to manage a broad spectrum of cases and severities of obstructive sleep apnea. A focus on titration goals, understanding maximum medical improvement, and side effect management furnishes practitioner confidence and promotes best patient care.
