Conference Summary

Chief Medical Officers (CMO) Leadership Academy is organized by Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and would be held during Feb 08, 2017 - Mar 29, 2018 at Hyatt Regency Orlando, Orlando, Florida, United States of America.

Applications are now being accepted for the AAMC Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Leadership Academy. This exclusive, 18-month executive training program explores the role, responsibilities, and influence of the CMO as a high-functioning member of the academic medicine C-suite. Designed by a committee of well-respected and experienced CMOs from academic medical centers and teaching hospitals, this program further develops the administrative knowledge and skills of current CMOs who are within the first three (3) years of the position and better prepares senior physician leaders interested in the CMO career path to manage the general complexities of the role. Using a blended learning approach that combines didactics, e-learning, and independent study as well as peer and executive mentorship, participants will advance their administrative and leadership proficiencies to successfully meet both the clinical and business demands associated with the CMO role in today’s healthcare environment.

Program Objectives :

At the completion of this program, participants will be able to:
• Identify and describe the critical success factors associated with the CMO role.
• Illustrate their emotional intelligence and leadership characteristics to maximize their potential as administrators.
• Demonstrate the use and application of performance data and standards as well as communication methods to create an evidence-based culture of quality and patient safety.
• Determine opportunities and cultivate strategies to create better alignment within care systems.
• Develop a change management strategy that enables valuable changes with minimum disruptions within their institutions.
• Understand the importance of risk management and the role of the CMO in the development, maintenance, and execution of a risk management strategy.
• Utilize principles and strategies for leveraging influence to motivate individuals, change behaviors, and drive mutually desired outcomes in the present and/or absence of direct authority.
• Identify the factors that build trust between physicians and hospital leaders.
• Describe best practices for developing, engaging, and managing physician behavior and performance as well as interprofessional teams.
• Implement approaches to effectively facilitate and lead meetings with colleagues, senior leaders, and employees. Describe the process of public speaking preparation and execution as a member of the C-suite.

The CMO Leadership Academy consists of four (4) in person meetings and six (6) virtual meetings. Participants are strongly encouraged to also attend the 2017 AAMC Chief Medical Officers Group (CMOG) and Group on Faculty Practice (GFP) meeting, which follows the February 8, 2017 in-person meeting.
