David S. Ludwig, MD, Ph.D. is a practicing endocrinologist and researcher at Boston Children’s Hospital. He holds the rank of Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and Professor of Nutrition at Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Ludwig is Founding Director of the Optimal Weight for Life (OWL) program at Children’s Hospital, one of the country’s oldest and largest multidisciplinary clinics for the care of overweight children. He also directs the New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center at Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Ludwig is a fellow of The Obesity Society and recipient of the E.V. McCollum Award (2008) of the American Society for Nutrition. He is Principal Investigator on numerous grants from the National Institutes of Health, has published over 150 scientific articles, and serves as Contributing Writer for JAMA. Dr. Ludwig is the author of a book on childhood obesity for parents (Ending the Food Fight: Guide Your Child to a Healthy Weight in a Fast Food/Fake Food World Houghton Mifflin, 2007). His latest book, for a general audience, is entitled Always Hungry? Conquer Cravings, Retrain Your Fat Cells, and Lose Weight Permanently (Grand Central Publishing, January 2016). He appears frequently in national print and broadcast media.

Dr. Richard Whitley is responsible for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Collaborative Antiviral Study Group whose role is to perform clinical trials of antiviral therapies directed against medically important viral diseases of children and adults including viruses considered as threats to human health. Whitley’s other research interest is in the translation of molecular biology to clinical application, particularly in the development of human monoclonal antibodies for the therapy of herpesvirus infections and the engineering of the herpes simplex virus for gene therapy. In these latter studies, he and his colleagues have engineered the herpes simplex virus to serve as a vector for foreign gene expression. He received his B.A. in chemistry from Duke University and his M.D. from George Washington University. He subsequently completed an internship in pediatrics and a fellowship in infectious diseases/virology at UAB. He has published more than 380 articles. He participates in numerous Data Safety and Monitoring Boards for ongoing clinical studies. He is a past President of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) and received the UAB President’s Medal in 2007. In 2013, he was named the inaugural recipient of the Distinguished Clinical Research Scholar and Educator in Residence at the NIH Clinical Center. He has received numerous other awards and lectureships, including the 2016 UAB SOM Dean’s Excellence Award in Research for Senior Faculty, the Department of Pediatrics Lifetime Achievement Award in Pediatric Healthcare in 2016, and the Honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, Irish Academy of Medicine in 2018. Dr. Whitley received the Alexander Fleming Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Infectious Diseases Society at their annual meeting in 2018. He received the 2020 National Foundation for Infectious Diseases John P. Utz Leadership Award for his work in the field of clinical virology in December 2020 and is currently the chair of the NIH-NIAID COVID-19 Data Safety and Monitoring Board. He is a Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics, Professor of Microbiology, Medicine and Neurosurgery; Loeb Eminent Scholar Chair in Pediatrics; Co-Director, Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases; Vice-Chair, Department of Pediatrics; Senior Scientist, Department of Gene Therapy; Scientist, Cancer Research and Training Center; Faculty, Gene Therapy Center; Associate Director for Drug Discovery and Development and Senior Leader, Pediatric Oncology Program, O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB; and Co-Founder and Co-Director, Alabama Drug Discovery Alliance.

Dr. Vassiliki "Liana" Tsikitis was appointed Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine and University Physicians Healthcare in November 2008. She joined the Division of Gastrointestinal and General Surgery at OHSU in September of 2011. During her tenure, she completed her Masters in Clinic Research (MCR) in 2013, and was promoted to Associate Professor of Surgery in 2014.
During her medical school, residency, fellowship, and her junior faculty years, Dr. Tsikitis won numerous awards in research, patient care, and teaching, including Outstanding Intern and Outstanding Resident awards, as well as Outstanding Role Model in Surgery. Institutionally, she is the Cancer Liaison Physician for the Commission on Cancer, and is sought after, both institutionally and locally to lecture on colon and rectal cancer, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).

Sanford Wolfe is a doctor of osteopathic medicine specializing in rheumatology and currently practicing in Dayton, Ohio. He is also a principal investigator for STAT Research, Inc. also located in Dayton, Ohio. Prior to starting his career, Dr. Wolfe graduated cum laude from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, in 1973, attended the College of Osteopathic Medicine until 1976, completed an internship at Grandview Hospital in 1977, a residency in internal medicine at the United States Air Force Medical Center in Wright Patterson AFB in 1982 and a fellowship in rheumatology at the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences in 1986.

In addition to his career and education, Dr. Wolfe has also been published in several medical journals, such as the Journal of Rheumatology, Seminars in Arthritis and Rheumatism, and the Journal of the American Osteopathic. Dr. Wolfe is also very involved in the medical community. In addition to being a member of the Ohio Association of Rheumatology, he is also a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the American Rheumatism Association, the Dayton District Academy of Osteopathic Medicine, and the Arthritis Foundation.
